about

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon "Novachord Solos," a beautiful album from 1941 by Fred Feibel. It's a solo recording where Feibel plays classics from the great American songbook—such as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You," and "Tea for Two." Produced by Hammond from 1939 to 1942, the Novachord is considered to be the first commercial polyphonic synthesizer, and its sound is quite haunting.

For track four of "Ephemera," my friend and long-time collaborator Philippe Lauzier joined me in the studio to record sixty minutes of improvised music. I then edited and re-organized the recording to act as interludes to the eight tracks featured on "Novachord Solos," which I spread out throughout the 60-minute track.
